In Accra, two men, Samsu Abdul, a trader, and Rashiru Yakubu, a businessman, have been sentenced to 45 months in prison each. They were found guilty of stealing nine bales of ladies’ underwear worth GHC129,600 from a warehouse in Kantamanto, Accra. This theft occurred on three separate occasions in February and March 2022. Three other accomplices are still at large.
The warehouse owner, Mathias Agbo, noticed that goods were disappearing from his warehouse, so he installed security cameras. The footage revealed that the four men entered the warehouse using their own keys and stole the bales of underwear. Abdul was arrested and confessed to stealing two bales but did not cooperate with the police to locate his accomplices. Yakubu was arrested later and implicated Arhin, a key cutter, and Iddrisu, the person they sold the stolen underwear to. All four men were found guilty and sentenced to 45 months in prison each.
While the prosecution stated that the stolen underwear was intended for commercial purposes, their exact plans remain unclear.
