Safina Mohammed Adizatu, a student, and Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, a technical officer, have both been detained by the police for their alleged roles in the murder of Frank Kofi Osei at the Ashalley Botwe School Junction in Accra. Osei, a Ghanaian living in Canada, was visiting for a trip. According to reports, Safina, also known as Safina Diamond on social media, and Arku repeatedly stabbed the victim in the chin, jaw, and back before strangling him to death.
The Adenta District Court, presided over by Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo, charged the defendants with conspiracy and murder, preserved their pleas, and remanded them into police custody with an August 12 court date. The defense team’s request for bail was denied by the prosecution team, which was led by Chief Inspector Jacob Nyarko, because the matter was still being investigated and efforts were being made to apprehend additional accomplices who were still at large. The bail application was denied by the judge.
According to the prosecution, which was led by Chief Inspector Jacob Nyarko, who narrated the facts, Safina is a 23-year-old University of Ghana level 100 student, and Arku is a Technical Officer at the Crop Research Institute, Kumasi. Osei, who is now dead, was a Ghanaian citizen who lived in Canada but had just recently visited. This information was provided by Chief Inspector Nyarko.
The prosecution claims that on July 24, 2022, Osei visited Safina, his fiancée, who lives in Ashalley Botwe School Junction, and made the decision to spend the night there. According to the prosecution, Osei was stabbed multiple times with a knife on his chin, jaw, and back at night by Safina, Arku, and unidentified other perpetrators, who then strangled him to death. The deceased was allegedly present in the room for a full 24-hour period as Safina and Arku cleaned up the blood. The prosecution claims that the accused afterwards took the deceased from the first floor of the multi-story structure down the staircase, dumped him at the gate of the home close to where the deceased had parked his Toyota Tundra, and then cleaned the blood spots from the staircase.
Approximately four hours after her partner visited her on July 26 of this year, Safina called a police officer to report that he had passed away in her chamber. The prosecution claimed that the police officer called the police patrol team, who arrived on the spot and discovered the deceased’s body lying at Safina’s front gate, but that neither Safina nor Arku were to be found. Later, the police were alleged to have located Safina near the Ashalley Botwe School Junction and apprehended her. According to the prosecution, Arku fled to Kumasi after perpetrating the crime. It claimed that efforts were being made to capture additional conspirators who were evading capture.
