In a shocking incident that has left the community reeling, Mary Adu, a 29-year-old single mother, has been apprehended by the Pru East District police for the horrific abuse she inflicted upon her own four-year-old son. This heart-wrenching case came to light when a concerned neighbor, Mr. David Duku, courageously reported the inhumane treatment to Social Welfare officials, sparking a swift response.
According to Mr. Duku’s harrowing account, he witnessed Mary physically assaulting her defenseless child for hours on end, leaving the young boy covered in bruises. Prompted by the gravity of the situation, Social Welfare officials, accompanied by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), wasted no time in rushing to the scene to apprehend the suspect for further investigation.
The traumatized four-year-old victim was immediately transported to St. Mathias Hospital at Yeji, where medical professionals are currently tending to his injuries. Madam Lydia Apam from the Welfare Department revealed the extent of the child’s suffering, reporting deep cuts on his face and other parts of his body. The severity of his injuries necessitates a surgical intervention, as doctors make every effort to save him from further harm.
In the wake of this distressing incident, Madam Apam affirmed that the case will be pursued diligently, ensuring due process is followed to safeguard the well-being of the child. This tragic tale serves as a reminder of the pressing need for society to address the issue of child abuse and work collectively to protect the most vulnerable among us.
