In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian community, a 60-year-old security man has been handed a hefty 24-year prison sentence for the despicable act of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. Osman Monnie, charged with defilement, shockingly pleaded guilty, leaving the court no choice but to convict him based on his own admission. During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Superintendent of Police Agnes Boafo, argued for the maximum sentence, highlighting the gravity of the crime, particularly considering the possibility that the victim may be Monnie’s own granddaughter. Despite the cries and distress of the young girl, Monnie callously proceeded with the defilement, showing a complete disregard for her well-being.
In light of the horrifying nature of the offense, Supt. Boafo fervently urged the court to impose a severe and deterrent sentence on the accused. Monnie, a married man and father of three, was unable to provide any justification to the court for his heinous actions, leaving everyone puzzled as to why he would commit such a reprehensible act against a defenseless child.
According to the prosecution’s account, the complainant, who is a cleaner residing in the North Kaneshie Industrial Area, lived with the victim. Monnie, now a convict, resided in Kasoa with his own family but worked as a security guard in the Industrial Area of Kaneshie. The proximity of Monnie’s residence to the victim’s location facilitated regular interaction between the two over the course of a year. The chilling incident occurred on March 17 of this year, when Monnie engaged in sexual intercourse with the young victim. Shockingly, someone present during the assault captured a video of the abhorrent act. On March 20, 2023, around 1:00 PM, the complainant came across the video footage, which depicted Monnie engaging in sexual acts with the victim. Disturbed by what she witnessed, the complainant interviewed the victim, who bravely recounted the instances of Monnie defiling her, revealing that it was not an isolated incident.
Appalled by these revelations, the complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Kaneshie. As a result, a police medical report form was issued to the complainant to ensure that the victim received the necessary medical attention. When the completed medical form confirmed that the victim had indeed been defiled, the police swiftly apprehended Monnie, ensuring that he faced justice for his reprehensible actions.
