Prophet Daniel Nkansah has a bench warrant out for his arrest from the Accra Circuit Court Four for missing court. When the matter was called, Mr. Nkansah—who is accused of stealing GHC390,000 by giving a merchant 60,000 jute bags—was not present. He was given bail notwithstanding his denial of the charge. The already-conducted trial has been postponed until August 24, 2022. Alhaji Mohammed Sanni, one of his accomplices, is currently on the lam.

Yakubu Yaya is a Tema-based merchant who frequently purchases huge numbers of jute bags, according to police inspector Eric Pobee, who earlier testified before the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Essandoh.

According to the prosecution, the defendant lived in Accra, and in May 2021, one of the case’s witnesses learned that a number of jute sacks had been on display for sale in a warehouse in Atico near the Odorkor Mallam highway. According to the report, the witness traveled to Atico where he encountered the accused, who claimed to be the owner of the jute sacks and was looking for buyers. The witness told the complainant about this encounter as well. According to the prosecution, on May 24, 2021, the complainant and the witnesses went to the store in Atico and haggled with the defendant over the purchase of 60,000 pieces of jute sacks worth Gh390,000.

The prosecution said the next day, the complainant made full payment to the accused person in his office in the same building in the presence of the witnesses. The Court heard that the accused person after receiving the money took Gh¢ 150,000.00 in their presence and put it aside in his office.

Later, the Court heard that the accused person took the complainant and the witnesses in his car to his other office at Chantan Tabora where the accused person handed over the remaining Gh¢240,000.00 to one suspect Alhaji Mohammed Sanni and further introduced him to the complainant as his worker. It said said the accused person and his worker suspect Alhaji Mohammed Sanni asked the complainant to come back to Atico and load the goods, but the complainant and the witnesses went to the store at Atico and realised that the store was under lock. The complainant then reported it to the Police leading to the accused person’s arrest. After investigation, he was arraigned.
