Police are looking for two shooters who seized a red Toyota Corolla from its owner with a baby inside at gunpoint. The incident took place at Santasi, a Kumasi neighbourhood in the Ashanti Region. On Sunday, January 16, 2022, the vehicle was rescued after the accused kidnappers abandoned it in Dakodwom after a chase by a police patrol unit. The vehicle was seized by two unidentified gunmen at the Good Hope Chapel, according to Ashanti regional police spokesperson ASP Godwin Ahianyo. “Upon receiving the information, the police immediately dispatched all patrol vehicles and motorcycles throughout the metropolis in search of the stated vehicle and its passengers” (suspects).
“The suspects abandoned the vehicle towards Dakwadwom and escaped into a nearby bush after sensing danger on the arrival of a police vehicle and a taxi cab,” Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said in a statement. The infant was recovered safe and has already been reunited with his mother.
“The vehicle has since been driven to the Regional Police Headquarters and the child has been reunited with the mother,” the statement continued.
Despite the fact that police patrol cars are pursuing the suspects and operational units have been alerted to aid in the search for the suspects, the general public is being asked to offer credible information to assist in the arrest of the criminals. They also reassured the public of their determination to keep the Ashanti Region safe.
