According to media reports, the Ghana Police Service has detained two individuals who are thought to be part of a human trafficking organization. A driver and his companion were arrested on Monday (13 February 2023).
According to a report by Citi FM and the addition that they had spent three days in Ghana, the crackdown followed the discovery of more than 20 foreigners, including children, hiding out close to a primary school in the Asokore Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Despite the fact that the nationals were led to believe they were leaving Niger for the Ivory Coast, the study revealed that the suspect driver and another individual brought them in and claimed Ghana was their final destination.
After being alerted to the situation that led to the two people’s arrest, officials from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly took action.
Meanwhile, it’s thought that some illegal West African immigrants entered Ghana by posing as beggars. However, following the recent repatriation of over 700 of them, they are now returning to villages in the Ashanti Region.
