The Police have arrested 29 demonstrators for their participation in violent attack on the police and some members of the public including school children during the Arise Ghana Demonstration yesterday, Tuesday 28June 2022.
The Arise Ghana “Krom Ay3 Hye”, a two day demonstration that started yesterday in Accra and is scheduled to continue today descended into chaos when the police began using tear gas on the demonstrators. According to reports, confusion about the best course of action led to the police shutting the Kwame Nkrumah interchange road and preventing any movement by people or vehicles.
Viral pictures and videos on social media show some demonstrators throwing stones at the Police. About nine police office sustained injuries during the riot. This pushed the police into arresting 29 demonstrators who were participated in violent attack.
The police officially wrote on twitter stating why they arrested the 29 demonstrators. They also cited that, the organisers of the demonstration will be arrested and brought before court for the attacks and destruction of public property in line with the provisions of section 3 of the Public Order Act, (Act 491).
