In order to ensure that the man is brought to justice, the family of a 44-year-old lady who was allegedly physically attacked by her husband, a National Security operative, is appealing to the Inspector General of Police for assistance. In an interview with GhOne TV, the woman, Habiba Halid, who is currently taking sanctuary in her family’s home in Ablekuma Oduman, claimed that her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, aka Figo, beat her up because she was talking to an online acquaintance.
She described how the man interrupted her phone conversation with the victim’s friend on Facebook on the day of the assault (January 20, 2023) and assaulted her. When questioned, she admitted that the person she was conversing with was just a buddy she knows from the microblogging platform and that he wasn’t even in the nation. She went on to say that although he really followed up to speak with the individual to get confirmation, he returned unconvinced by the responses he had received.
Mother of 4 Habiba continued, “My husband then threatened my life.” “My head and body are both giving me anguish. My teeth; I can’t properly chew food. Since becoming married, I have never cheated on him. Even so, he inquired as to my friend’s identity and where I met him. I said that I had just met him on Facebook. He then inquired where my friend was residing, and I said that he wasn’t even in Ghana; he was only a friend. “And when he challenged the man, he was informed that they were only buddies. She described how he threatened me with a knife and advised her to pack her belongings if she didn’t want to die in his home.
Habiba claims that the assault began long before their marriage of ten years ago. As a result of the severe punching she received from her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, she currently has blood clots in both of her eyes and on her left shoulder. She added that his lack of communication and nervousness forced her to rely on her social media pals for company. “Men used to approach me, which made him envious, and as a result, he started acting in that way. He used to beat me before this one happened. He scared away individuals who wanted to help me, she continued. Her family, where she is currently seeking safety, wants the legislation to be applied as intended.
They requested that the police intervene and see to it that their sister and relative get justice. One of her relatives told GhOne TV, “Right now, we are simply pleading with the IGP; we want him to intervene for us because we don’t know what is going to happen. The Ghana Police Service’s Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Amasaman branch has subsequently received a complaint of the incident in order to pursue legal action.
