An unemployed man accused of breaking into senior police officer’s home at Ablor-Adjei, close to Pantang in Accra, has been remanded into police custody by an Adentan Circuit Court. Eric Armal tried to flee the premises with electrical lines worth GHC10,000, but luck eluded him.
Armal testified in court that the sole reason he chose to go get the electrical lines was because he noticed them dangling in front of the Superintendent of Police’s home. Armal has entered a not guilty plea to the charges of breaking and entering, inflicting criminal damage, and theft. Armal has been remanded into police custody by the court on the grounds that the defendant poses a flight risk. Armal must appear again in court on February 24 per the direction of the court, which is presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah.
Inspector Eric Abban, who was in charge of Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo’s case, stated that the accuser, an unemployed Senior Police Officer, lived in Cantonments whereas the complainant was a Senior Police Officer with no fixed address.
The accused, according to the prosecution, wandered around looking for work. It stated that the complainant had an unfinished, multi-story structure in Ablor Adjei-Pantang that was nearing completion. According to the prosecution, the complainant recently wired and gated the house The prosecution claims that burglars broke into the home twice and stole electrical cables. It stated that he had fixed all of the house’s doors and windows and secured the property under lock and key in order to avoid experiencing theft for a third time.
According to the prosecution, on January 28, 2023, at around 6:30 am, the suspect is suspected of climbing over the complainant’s wall, damaging the front door and the back escape door before entering the building. However, the prosecution said that when the accused was leaving the residence with the loot, luck evaded him. He was captured by witnesses and given to the police. According to the prosecution, Armal acknowledged the crime in his caution statement.
