A 60-year-old man has been remanded into prison detention by a Cape Coast Circuit Court after it was claimed that he sold four land plots in Efutu, close to Jukwa, in the Central area. Amos Mpong is alleged to have given the complainant, Mrs. Agnes Baiden, a fraudulent receipt for the land he sold her for GHC 25,000.00. The accused did not enter a plea and will return on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, to the courtroom presided over by Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur.
Inspector Yakubu Iddrisu described the circumstances of the case and stated that sometime in January 2020, Mrs. Baiden was given a mission by her son, who lives in the United States of America, to purchase a place for him for his project. Mrs. Baiden met and made arrangements with Mpong in January 2020 thanks to the referral of a friend who shall remain nameless. She then made payment after inspecting the property.
The accused, who was acting as the head of the Nsona Royal Family of Efutu, took the complainant to the plot’s location for plot demarcation a week after the payment was paid.
Inspector Iddrisu claimed that once the complainant visited the property, a bystander informed her that the accused individual did not own the property. She attempted to get her money reimbursed multiple times, but each time she failed, she filed a formal complaint against Mpong on Thursday, July 14. The same day, Mpong was taken into custody and eventually appeared in court.
