A 23-year-old student at the University of Development Studies (UDS) has been sent to prison for one year because he fooled a businessman. This student, Anyebas James, admitted that he did something wrong, and the Nkwanta District Court found him guilty.
Here’s what happened: James put an advertisement on his WhatsApp and Facebook pages in July 2023, selling a Haojue DR motorbike. A man named Mr. S.K Kwasi wanted to buy it, so they agreed on a price of GH¢8,500, and James told him to send the money to his mobile money (Momo) account. Mr. Kwasi paid the money, but then James asked for an extra GH¢1,100 to register the motorbike. Mr. Kwasi paid that too, making it a total of GH¢9,600.
However, James never delivered the motorbike, and he vanished. Mr. Kwasi reported this to the police, who found James hiding in Nalerigu. The court decided that James should go to jail for one year with hard labor to show others not to do the same. They also told James to return the money he took. His family paid GH¢4,000, and he needs to find the rest within six months.
