Over 150 land guards have descended upon the peaceful farming community of Gomoa Okyereko, brandishing guns and bullets, as they ruthlessly chase farmers off their lands. This brazen act aims to pave the way for the sale of these coveted lands. With a population of over 2,000, Gomoa Okyereko, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, now faces an alarming threat to their livelihoods.
Residents are pointing fingers at influential figures, including opinion leaders and politicians from Effutu, accusing them of orchestrating this land invasion without any legal basis. Despite numerous complaints lodged with the Dominase District Police Command, Central East Regional Police Command, and DCE Solomon Darko Quarm, no action has been taken against the land guards who have been grading the seized lands. Growing frustrated, the residents are appealing to the Inspector General of Police and other relevant authorities to intervene before they take matters into their own hands.
In a startling revelation, Nana Kofi Donkor, the chief of Gomoa Okyereko, disclosed that these land guards have already graded more than 200 acres of land, destroying all crops in their path. Expressing his anguish, Nana Donkor condemned the use of land guards by politicians from Winneba to terrorize their community. Despite existing laws, the government’s failure to rein in these unlawful acts has left the residents feeling vulnerable and betrayed.
