An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 28-year-old laborer to ten years in prison for defiling a 12-year-old child at La in Accra. At the conclusion of the trial, Ebenezer Ekey was declared guilty by the court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann.
The complaint is a trader and the victim’s mother, according to the prosecution, which is headed by Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor. The victim is a fifth-grade student. The victim and her mother live in a home owned by the Ekey’s grandmother, according to Chief Inspector Tekpor. The victim came from school on July 26, 2021, about 13:30 hours, and Ekey sent her to buy him GHC2.00 worth of Airteltigo airtime.
According to the prosecution, Ekey brought the victim into his brothers’ room after she returned with the airtime, undressed her, and had sex with her there. According to the report, the girl said that Ekey sexually assaulted her in the first few days of July 2021 and warned her not to tell anyone.
However, the complainant was informed by the victim, who then contacted the police. She was then given a medical report form to take the victim to the hospital. Ekey was detained on July 29, 2021, and he confessed to the crime in his caution statement. According to the prosecution, Ekey appeared before the court on August 3, 2021, and was given bail. It said Ekey failed to appear in court and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. On November 14, 2022, Ekey was arrested at his hideout and put before the court again.
