For conspiracy to conduct crime, robbery, and causing hurt, a 25-year-old air conditioning specialist was sentenced to 45 years in jail by an Accra Circuit Court.

Edem Morkli will be sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbery, 15 years in prison for conspiracy to do crime, and 15 years in prison for causing harm.

Morkli was found guilty at the conclusion of a trial presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful.

The prosecution pleaded with the court to give the defendant a stiffer term so that he may serve as an example to others who might wish to commit such a heist.

According to Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, the complainant was Azih Nnaemeka, a scrap trader who lived in Dansoman, and Morkli, an air conditioning professional who lived in Dzorwulu.

Atsu and Seth, his collaborators, are still on the loose.

According to Chief Inspector Ahiabor, the complainant, who ran a scrap business in Dzorwulu, gave his contact information to a few mechanics in North Dzorwulu so that he could be contacted whenever they had scrap for sale.

On February 23, 2021, at approximately 0600 hours, the complainant received a call from an unknown number with whom he had previously done business, asking him to meet him at a specific washing bay for scrap.

The caller urged the complainant to meet him at Lucas College because he was unfamiliar with the region.

According to Chief Inspector Ahiabor, the complainant arrived at the agreed-upon location on his Royal Motor cycle about 0700 hours on the same day and met the accused persons.

Morkli allegedly pulled out a knife and told the complainant to get off the motorcycle, according to the prosecution.
He then took a cutlass from Atsu and attacked the complainant in the back with the blunt side, according to the report.

Morkli took the complainant’s bag carrying GHS2,000.00 when he felt frightened and attempted to flee, according to the prosecution.

Morkli gave the bag over to Atsu and Seth after seizing it.

According to the prosecution, the complainant decided to fight for his motorcycle, so he began a struggle with the accused, and Morkli inflicted a deep wound on the complainant’s left arm, prompting the complainant to yell for help.

When Atsu and Seth sensed danger, they fled with the bag holding the GHS2,000.00, according to the report.

According to the prosecution, Morkli began referring to the complainant as a burglar who had stolen a converter from a car parked at a fitting shop and threatened to denounce him to the police station.

When one of the good Samaritans summoned the police patrol squad to come to the site, Morkli leapt aboard his motorcycle and bolted from the scene.

Morkli was allegedly pursued, apprehended, and handed over to the police, according to the prosecution.

It stated that attempts were being made to bring Atsu and Seth to justice.
