On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, the Inspector-General of Police assisted an Arise Ghana protester who had become ill and covered his medical expenses. The protester was one of 29 protestors who were detained by police after the capital’s demonstration on Tuesday was marred by tumultuous circumstances.
But as he was being held, he began to experience stomach pain, for which he needed to be sent to the hospital immediately. However, the protester had only 5 cedis in his pocket when he was released from the hospital, making it impossible for him to pay his medical fees.
According to reports, the IGP Dr. Akuffo Dampare was informed of the protester’s plight and promptly paid GHC1000 out of his own pocket to cover the “krom Ay3 hye” protester’s medical expenses.
Meanwhile, on the express instructions of the IGP, the protestor has been granted bail, while he was also given some pocket money by the IGP. Speaking to the press, the protestor Eric Kwabena Dartey expressed his gratitude to the IGP noting he was shocked by the gesture.
“I was at the hospital when they said the IGP wanted to talk to me and check up with my condition. After he spoke to me he sent me GHC1000 to foot my bills and also keep some as pocket money. I have been trying since then to get access to him to thank him but I have not succeeded. I’m grateful to him,” he said.
