Rreports reaching GhanaCrimes.com says that, Madam Gifty Pomaa, the headmistress of MalamKrom L/A Primary School in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has ceased teaching and learning activities since GHC 2,000 went missing from her house. According to a report by Kumasi-based Angel FM, the Headmistress shut down the school after accusing certain students of stealing her money. On Monday, March 13, 2023, the incident occurred, and as of Monday, March 20, 2023, there was no active teaching or learning taking place.
Mr. Ankomah Kennedy, Chairman of the School Management Council (SMC), claims that the Headmistress made the choice on her own without engaging any other community members or stakeholders.
The head of the elementary department of the school, Madam Gifty Pomaa, also forbade those in charge of the school’s feeding program from preparing meals for the kids throughout the week and insisted that things could return to normal once she retrieves her money. She apparently also threatened to deal with any teachers who disobeyed her ruling.
Under the condition of anonymity, a few teachers told the Angel FM reporter that the Headmistress had told them not to teach until the students had repaid the money that had been taken. Since then, the issue has been brought up with the District Education Director, who has called a meeting with SMC to try to break the deadlock.
