A one-time Upper East regional vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s Upper East region, Williams Akanyele, has been shot and killed at his home in Nabango, Kassena-Nankana West district, on Wednesday night. The police believe the murder is related to a long-standing disagreement over chieftaincy. Akanyele was a prominent member of the NDC and had served as the party’s vice chairman in the region for many years. He also used to be a member of parliament for the Binduri constituency.
The NDC has strongly condemned this killing and called for justice to be served. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the party’s national chairman, expressed deep sadness and said Akanyele’s death is a significant loss for both the NDC and Ghana.
The police are investigating the case but haven’t made any arrests yet. This tragic event adds to a series of political killings in Ghana, and the police are determined to find and bring the perpetrators to justice.
