An 18-year-old farmer has been remanded in custody by the Circuit Court in Bolgatanga for allegedly assaulting a colleague at Kwarania in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality. Nicholas Webaduah, who was charged with using an offensive weapon, denied committing the offense and was remanded in police custody by the court. When the two argued over a fishing net, Webaduah allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on Emmanuel Aduah. The complainant, Mr Aduah, and the accused were both Kwarania residents, according to Inspector Mariam Awemoni.
On June 6, this year, a misunderstanding occurred between the complainant and the accused on a farm, according to the prosecution. The two argued over ownership of a fishing net until a passer-by separated them, Insp Awemoni told the court, which was presided over by Mr Alexander Graham.
According to the prosecution, Webaduah dashed to a nearby thicket, reappeared with a cutlass, and inflicted deep wounds on the victim’s right ankle, buttocks, and toes. “A woman named Georgina arrived on the scene during this time and raised the alarm. Insp Awemoni claimed, “One John rushed to the site and carried the complaint to Navrongo’s War Memorial Hospital for treatment.” The victim’s family members, according to the prosecution, overpowered the accused, who was armed with a machete, and handed him over to the Navrongo police. “The victim was still struggling for his life at the hospital,” Insp Awemoni stated, “and the investigation is still proceeding to obtain testimony from potential witnesses. He will appear in court again on June 29, 2022.
