A 45-year-old farmer named Eric Adrah has been given a seven-year prison term for growing marijuana without a license. Adrah was given a five-year prison term and a GH24,000 fine, but when he didn’t pay the money, he was given a two-year default sentence after pleading guilty to the accusation.
On June 14 of this year, he was taken into custody in Dodi-Asuboe, Kadjebi District, Oti, for growing a narcotic plant on a two-acre farm.
While passing judgment on Adrah, the court presided over by Mr. Alfred Kwabena Asiedu issued a directive for the farm’s destruction. The Narcotics Control Commission’s Oti Regional Commander, Mr. Jeffen Siberi, told the Ghana News Agency that the demolition would serve as a warning to those involved in such operations and that they should cease because anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
Mr. Siberi thanked the police for assembling the necessary resources to make the operation successful and promised further cooperation in the battle against illegal drug use in the area.
