A biomedical engineer who reportedly used fake car paperwork to obtain a USD8,800 loan has been granted GHS50,000.00 bail with two sureties by an Accra Circuit Court. Cyril Nyarko, 27, denied aiding a person (still at large) in falsifying the paperwork for a Toyota RAV4 XLE 2018 model car in order to swindle a businessman and use the money for mining. Nyarko’s sureties were required to be family members, per an order from the court presided over by Mr. Kwabena Koduah Obiri- Yeboah. Additionally, he must appear twice a month at the Police Station until the case is resolved.
Nyarko will make his next appearance on August 8, 2022.Police Chief Inspector George Nana Akomeah giving the facts said Paapa Egyir Mbroh, the complainant in the case is a businessman and the chief executive officer of Trugreen Construction and Decor located at Dansoman. He resided at Otordjor -Dansoman whilst the accused person, Nyarko is a biomedical engineer and a resident of Spintex.
Chief Inspector Akomeah said on June 7, 2022, at about 1800 hours, the complainant’s friend, one Joseph Macony Acquah, a witness in the case, introduced the accused to the complainant that he needed a loan of USD 8,800 for a mining business. Acquah and the accused person went to the complainant’s office where the accused was given USD 8,800 and he (Nyarko) gave a Toyota Rav4 2018 S model XLE with the registration number GR 5163-22 as collateral. The accused promised the complainant that he would return the said amount in a month’s time which fell on July 8, 2022. Prosecution said on July 12, 2022, the accused went to the complainant’s office with USD 1,800 as the interest on the USD 8,800 he borrowed.
He then pleaded for an additional one month for him to be able to raise the principal amount, the Court heard. Chief Inspector Akomeah said the complainant then demanded for the document covering the above-mentioned vehicle which the accused handed over knowing well that it was not genuine. He said on July 15, 2022, at about 1100 hours, Benjamin Afful who is also a witness in the case, lured the accused, arrested and sent him to the Dansoman Police station where an official complaint was lodged.
Prosecution said investigation cautioned statement was obtained from the accused and during investigations, it came to light that, the above-mentioned vehicle was rented from Zion car rental garage at Trinity Avenue at East Legon. Police extended investigations to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DLVA) and there, it was established that the documents were not genuine, the prosecutor told the Court.
Chief Inspector Akomeah said it was also unmasked that, the accused through the collaboration of one supposed Evans a purported “Goro-Boy” at DVLA managed to forge the document to deceive the complainant. He said during investigations, GHS 14,700.00 was retrieved from the accused and after Police investigations, the accused was arraigned.
