A couple who abused the man’s girlfriend, also known as “side chick,” were sentenced by the Bekwai Circuit Court.
Oko Agyemang admitted conspiring to assault Helena Opoku with Christiana Annan, his wife, and was sentenced to pay 50 penalty units equivalent to GHC600.00 or serve two months in hard labor in default, while Christiana Annan was sentenced to pay a fine of 60 penalty units equivalent to GHC720.00 or serve three months in hard labor in default.
In addition, Oko was given bail for assaulting Helena, which he denied, and he was ordered to return to court for the trial on Monday, June 13, 2022.
Helena, the complainant, was unemployed and a neighbor of the couple at Ahenema-Kokoben in the Asante Region, according to Police Chief Inspector Christian Osborn Amartey.
Agyeman proposed to Helena around three months ago, he added, after convincing her that he had divorced his wife.
According to the prosecution, the complainant agreed, and they began dating on the outskirts of Annan.
According to him, as the relationship proceeded, the complainant traveled to her hometown of Asante-Bekwai, and upon her return, she learned that Agyeman was still married to his wife, so she (the complainant) couldn’t visit him, so she went to her mother’s house.
According to the prosecution, the complainant went to Agyeman’s house on April 18, 2022, about 1900 hours, encountered Annan, and wanted to apologize to her for accepting Agyemang’s proposal.
According to the report, Annan became enraged and began striking her with a metal bar.
The plaintiff was dragged to the ground by Agyeman and his wife, according to the court, with Annan inserting her fingers into her vagina.
The couple then grabbed the complainant’s phones and confined her in a room till the next day, according to the prosecution.
The complainant, who had bruises all over her body and a cut on her right thumb, reported the incident to the police, which led to the couple’s arrest, according to the report.
