The Accra High Court has ordered Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, to settle an outstanding loan following the enforcement of a judgment originally issued by a court in the United Kingdom.
Court records indicate that the debt is owed to Cola Holdings Limited, a UK-based company. The original judgment relates to a loan facility exceeding US$14.9 million, which the creditor says remains unpaid. With accrued interest and associated costs, the total liability has been estimated at approximately GH¢258.76 million.
The enforcement proceedings in Ghana were brought to give effect to the UK court’s decision, in line with Ghanaian law, which allows foreign judgments to be recognised and enforced under certain conditions. The Accra High Court, after considering the application, granted the order for enforcement, thereby making the foreign judgment executable within Ghana.
The court’s order does not amount to a fresh trial of the dispute but rather recognises the validity of the UK judgment and authorises steps to recover the debt locally. Details of the original loan agreement, including when it was contracted and the terms of repayment, were not fully outlined in open court during the enforcement proceedings.
As at the time of reporting, it remains unclear whether Nana Kwame Bediako has taken steps to challenge the enforcement order or has applied for a stay of execution. There has also been no public response from his legal representatives regarding the ruling.
