Some military troops in Ashaiman appear to have taken the law into their own hands, travelling from home to house and brutalizing locals, according to member of parliament Ernest Norgbey, who confirmed the incident to GhanaWeb.
This is in response to viral social media videos of the incident that were recorded by certain locals. In a few of these films, staff members can be seen striking and abusing patients who were outside of their rooms in the morning. The incident is alleged to have occurred at Official Town in Ashaiman amid a significant downpour at dawn on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
When more information becomes available, it appears that the workers were seeking revenge for the death of a fellow employee who was killed nearby at the crack of dawn on March 4, 2023. According to reports, residents have been ordered to remain in their rooms until the situation is under control. The neighborhood’s streets are largely deserted.
