A team of armed robbers have just robbed from an Ecobank branch at Nzema Aiyinase in the Ellembelle District of Western Region. An eye witness who spoke to GhanaCrimes.com said the armed robbers were six in number.
They performed the robbery act in a split of seconds. Four of the robbers entered the bank situated on top of a one story building with nose masks covering their faces. They were carrying a sack, which they used in hiding their guns and to distract onlookers to make it seem like they were going to the bank to deposit money. They held the workers at gunpoint and immediately locked the doors behind them whilst inside preventing anybody from leaving or entering the premises.
Two remaining members of the group were already waiting for their colleagues on three royal motorcycles in front of the building, which happens to be an okada station within the Aiyinase Town. They immediately ran off when they were done with the operation, leaving no traces behind. They left with an undisclosed amount of money as it was closure time and the bank had already sent the cash made within the day to the main branch in Esiama. They therefore took away mobile phones of some of the workers who were present during that time. The police are currently at the scene conducting investigations.
This happened on Tuesday, 11th April 2023, which happens to be a market day at Aiyinase between the hours of 17:00 and 18:00. Those present during the robbery were only workers of the bank as they had finished balancing their books and were ready to close for the day. Nobody was hurt during the robbery.
