A total of 34 women are being prosecuted for prostitution in the Tema metropolis. After recent reports from concerned locals revealed that some young women had been parading the city’s streets at night seeking clients for prostitution, this was done. To restore sanity to the city, the Tema Regional Police Command organized an operation under the direction of intelligence.
The arrests led to the detention of the female citizens of Ghana, Liberia, and Nigeria in Subon Valley in Community Seven 7, the Sabrina Hotel neighborhood in Community One at Site 17, and the Viena City and Datus neighborhoods in Community Eight.
Investigations revealed that the accused had been working as prostitutes, using their street corner stand-ins to make faces at customers, grin at them, and make mouth motions to attract clients for prostitution. Following an investigation, the accused were accused of the crime and arraigned. Each accused defendant was given a bail amount of GH5,000 with two sureties in court.
Before considering granting bail, the police were instructed to verify each accused person’s identity. On March 15, they must make a court appearance.
