Seth Fiagbetor, Henry Tetteh, and Sadat Mohammed have been granted bail by Tema Circuit Court A in the amount of GHS 80,000.00 for conspiring to steal mobile phones from motorists on the Tema-Sakumono Beach road. The accused are Fiagbetor, 26, a bolt courier who lives in Saki Bediako; Tetteh, 21, a laborer who lives in Ashaiman Newtown; and Mohammed, 16, a laborer who lives in Ashaiman Tulaku. When all three had entered a not guilty plea to the allegations, the bail was approved by the court, which was presided over by Ms. Agnes Opoku Banie. However, the case was postponed until April 27, 2023.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Doe, Prosecuting explained that the complainants were Hafisatu Abubakar Sadiq, 35-year-old, is unemployed and resides at Tema Community Three; and Abigail Amegatsey, 30-year-old Seamstress who resides at Tema Community One. The rest were Anato Stephen 25-year-old is Uber Driver who resides at Tema Community Five, and Kwabena Frimpong Manso 48-year-old is a Lecturer who resides at Tema Community Two.
ASP Doe said on March 3, 2023, at about 1840 hours the complainants were all driving on Tema-Sakumono Beach Road when a vehicle caught fire which created heavy traffic. The accused and their about 15 accomplices allegedly began beating car owners and robbed them of their cell phones during this process, according to the prosecution. The complainant Abubakar was on the phone when Sadat Mohammed allegedly stole her blue Vivo mobile phone as they were traveling in a Toyota Rav4 with Tijani Abdul Rahaman, the complainant’s husband and a witness in the case. When one of the accused Mohammed the juvenile snatched the witness’s Nokia phone, the complainant Abigail Amegatsey and her husband Davis Boafo were in their Toyota Vitz Salon car. The witness was holding both his Gery color Nokia phone and her Blue color Nokia phone.
ASP Doe said the complainant Stephen Anato whilst in his Uber car in the traffic also had his Tecno Spark 8 phone snatched from him by Henry Tetteh. The Complainant Kwabena Frimpong-Manso’s iPhone 11 Pros was also snatched from him and was able to identify Henry Tetteh as his attacker. According to the prosecution, one of the witnesses at the scene pursued the accused persons and met a police Patrol team and reported the case to them. The Police quickly conducted an intelligence-led operation and got six suspects arrested including Seth Fiagbetor, Henry Tetteh and Sadat Mohammed the juvenile, at the scene of the crime.
The things they stole from the complainants, including the iPhone 11 Pros, a Vivo, a blue Nokia, and Techno Spark 8 mobile phones, were found after a search of the juvenile was undertaken. In a preliminary statement to the police, all three admitted to the robbery, identified Henry Tetteh as the gang’s leader, and stated that Seth Fiagbetor had given them all the stolen phones to retain. Police investigations further showed that Seth Fiagbetor, Henry Tetteh, and Sadat Mohammed, together with their comrades who are still at large, planned to steal the complainants of their cell phones by taking advantage of the busy traffic on the route and the fact that it was a holiday. Following an investigation, the three defendants were accused of the crime and brought before the court.
