After being detained by people posing as police officials for close to six weeks, a 24-year-old secondhand clothing dealer is still missing. According to eyewitnesses, three of the men who detained Razak Kasim at his home in Abuakwa, in the Ashanti region, were armed and wearing police uniforms. Nonetheless, the family of Razak has searched numerous police stations in the area in an attempt to find where their relative is being held.
Mother of the suspect, Amina Awudu explains, “they threatened whoever went close to inquire about the arrest. They didn’t mention to the residents of the house where they were taking him, but I followed up at the Central Police Station and even to the prison but couldn’t find my son.”
On January 12, 2023, six armed individuals who claimed to be police officials picked up Razak Kasim. They had three uniformed members. The squad reportedly arrived in two salon cars and a pick-up truck, according to witnesses. All of the vehicles lacked license plates. Residents of the home were informed to visit Kumasi Central Police Station for a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
Another person who is allegedly a suspect’s accomplice was shot there. They claim there was no justification for the arrest. According to reports, Razak, the victim, traveled from Techiman to Kumasi to transact in used clothing. Amina Awudu, his Techiman-based mother, has been traveling back and forth between Kumasi and Techiman for the past month in an effort to locate her son. She claims that the only policeman with a recognized face is the one who works at Nkoranza in the Bono East Area.
“Eyewitnesses tell me the only person they could identify is a police officer who works at Nkoranza. They say he had come to his parents at Abuakwa to treat an injury. He said my son’s friend was on their wanted list, so he followed his colleagues to make the arrest. I hear they shot the boy and carried my son with them”, the mother said. Luv News checks at the Central Police Station in Kumasi revealed no such suspect has been taken in.
The mother is asking police to help locate her first child. “I am pleading with them, if he has gone contrary to the law, they should produce him so we can talk about it. I can’t live”, she said.
