Twenty-three persons have died and 24 injured, in a gory accident on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway, on Sunday. According to information gathered by the Ghanaian Times, 22 passengers—including four women, one child, and 17 men—died immediately after their deaths. One additional passenger died while receiving medical attention at the hospital.
A big bird bus headed for Kumasi with the registration number AS 4635-22 and an articulated vehicle with the registration number GW 1127-P were both involved in the collision, according to an eyewitness statement. On that section of the road, between Kintampo and Babatorkuma, the accident happened around 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to the witness.
He claimed that in an effort to avoid colliding with another stationary automobile that was parked on the road, the articulator truck crossed over into the lane of the bus. According to the eyewitness, the bus collided with the articulated truck, killing 22 passengers and wounding many more. About 24 injured people are being treated at the Kintampo government hospital while the dead have been deposited there. A source from the police revealed to the Ghanaian Times that the drivers of both vehicles, who survived the collision, have been detained and are helping with the investigation.
Kwasi Adu Gyan, the regional minister for Bono East, has visited the accident site in the meantime to gather first-hand information and that of people who are receiving treatment at the hospital.
