Abdul-Rauf Sadiq, age 21, who was arrested by Yendi Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Field Employees for allegedly stealing company property, has been remanded by a Yendi Circuit Court. In addition to other items discovered in his room at Sikafo, a Yendi suburb, the youngster Abdul-Rauf was accused of stealing four meters, 19 safety valves, three tap leads, two stock cocks, and other items.
The Ghana Water Company Limited’s Yendi Municipal Manager, Alhaji Adam Sayibu Asuro, informed the media after the suspect’s arrest that they had received information that Abdul-Rauf Sadiq had stolen some of their company’s property. He said immediately they saw the items the suspect run out of his room and with the help of the people who were around, the Company Field Workers arrested him and handed him over to the Yendi Municipal Police command. Alhaji Adam said they started getting reports from their customers that their meters and fittings were stolen over the time, around Sikafo, Nurses Quarters, Junior Staff Quarters (JSQ) amongst others all Surburbs of Yendi.
He said they reported the theft cases to the Overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari II and Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussif the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive who is also the chairman of the Yendi Municipal Security Council. He stated that the suspect, Abdul-Rauf Sadiq, appeared before the Yendi Circuit Court on April 6, 2023, was remanded into the custody of the Yendi Police, and was scheduled to appear again on April 19, 2023. As the suspect claimed to sell the meters and fittings to scrap dealers in Yendi, he urged the company’s 1,700+ clients to be cautious with their meters and fittings. In order to stop the theft of goods in the community, he urged the general people to provide information to the company’s employees.
